MOTHER and daughter team Ann and Lesley Brookes are taking the plunge into the retail world with their first shop.
Stitchcraft is due to open tomorrow in long-vacant premises on the corner of West Street and Antrobus Street in Congleton.
The building was last occupied by a shoe shop, and tomorrow's opening will represent a major change for Mrs Brookes and her daughter.
Mrs Brookes, aged 53, comes from Mereside Avenue, Congleton, and is embarking on her new venture after eight years as an overlocker at a Congleton textile factory.
Her 23-year-old daughter, who lives with her parents, has just left college after gaining a geography degree at Staffordshire University.
Stitchcraft will stock hand knitting yarns, as well as knitting patterns, needles and accessories.
It will also provide everything for the cross-stitch enthusiast, and offer advice on knitting or stitching.
"My husband bought the premises as an investment, and opening a shop is something my daughter and I have always wanted to do," said Mrs Brookes.
''We know quite a lot of people locally who do cross-stitching, and hope the shop will be a success."
''I'm very nervous about the opening, but also quite excited.''
Stitchcraft will open from Monday to Saturday.
