THE Syd Lawrence Orchestra will be swinging into Crewe's Lyceum Theatre on Saturday, March 31, for a special tribute to the .Big Bands.
Voted the 'Best Band in the Land' the 17 outstanding musicians, under Musical Director Chris Dean, will delight fans with tributes to American greats including Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton.
Britain's best are also featured in their programme, including Ted Heath and Geraldo.
Formed in 1967 by the late great Syd Lawrence, the orchestra toured under his leadership until 1994 when Syd decided to retire and hand over the baton. Sadly, he died four years later.
Chris Dean became the band's new MD in 1996. He had previously been lead trombonist for six years.
Chris now owns the orchestra with business partner David Bothwell.
Two fine singers complete the line-up - Sarah Gilbertson and Matthew Ford.
