FOOT and mouth investigators have been rushed to a farm in the Nantwich area after reports of a suspected outbreak.
As the GUARDIAN went to press, Ministry of Agriculture tests, to see if an outbreak of foot and mouth disease had struck in the Nantwich area, had not yet been completed.
The results were due late yesterday, Wednesday, March 14.
Burland farmer Mike Allwood's farm is within the three kilometre exclusion zone of the suspected case and he has been forced to erect 'Keep Out!' signs and stop all movement.
"We have just been served a notice of a Foot and Mouth exclusion zone and we now need a licence to move any milk products on or off the premises," said Mr Allwood.
The national figure for foot and mouth outbreaks closed in on 200 farms on Tuesday. As the GUARDIAN went to press there were still no confirmed outbreaks in Cheshire although 39 farms across Cheshire are, or have been subject to investigation.
Council officers stressed all of the results so far had been returned negative.
Peter Morgan, South Cheshire NFU Spokesman, said that MAFF would be likely to come down hard on even the slightest hint of a possible outbreak in Cheshire.
