Mossley Hill...4
Daten...2
DATEN men's hockey team suffered a major blow to their title asperations following defeat in Liverpool on Saturday.
Mossley soon found themselves in the driving seat of this top of the table clash. Slack marking allowed them to take the lead when a midfield foray left four defensive players reeling and 'keeper Parr stranded.
The home side began to pass the ball with great confidence and got beyond the Daten back line on several occasions. However, just as half-time was approaching Mossley doubled their lead with another soft goal.
With the first attack of the second half, Mossley broke away to score a disputed goal.
Although Daten managed to pull a goal back quickly through a Steve Johnston short corner, the visitors were never in this game.
Daten's late second followed the best move of the game. A quick break from Griffiths found Huddart inside the Mossley half. The Scotsman found Cammish, who held up the ball well before returning the ball to Huddart, to thread the ball past the converging goalkeeper.
With two games to go, Daten lie one point behind leaders Bramhall.
The seconds' recent improvement and good work was undone as they were demolished 7-2 away to Salford University.
An under-strength and under-experienced team struggled in all areas, and should have been capable of putting up a greater fight against a team who are only a few places above them in the league.
Phizacklea and Sheldon in the Daten defence continuously failed to clear the ball which created more.
Pollard and Driver rarely managed to find attackers McAdam and Johnston in space.
Cammish who eventually managed to get a goal.
The away team soon scored another as Driver's shot found its way through some helpless Salford defenders.
Goalkeeper Jon Stoney should be credited for a commanding performance and some fine saves, which kept the score in single figures.
Following a good game the week before against top of the division Chester, Daten women's team went down 2-0 to Warrington.
Excellent defending from second-teamers Hunt and midfield play from Sankey and Jackson performed some good saves.
Daten passed well throughout the game with Millman, Moffett, Bootes Sankey and Hickson linking well but were unable to finish the good work.
Daten need to win their remaining two league games to have a chance of staying in Division Two.
The women's seconds were the only Daten side to triumph with a 2-1 win over Whitchurch.
After going a goal down Daten drew level through a Lisa Chesney equaliser and then went ahead thanks to Chesney again.
With two league games to go, Daten could achieve promotion for the second time in two seasons.
Player of the match was Kathryn Edwards
