Warrington RUFC...21
Wilmslow...14
A poor second half almost saw Warrington snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
An Andy James penalty was followed by a length-of-the-field move instigated by Matt Drinkwater. The ball was worked across the backs for Williams to stroll over. James converted, and followed soon after with a drop goal and a further penalty.
Wilmslow pulled a penalty back but strong Warrington defence kept their line secure.
Warrington started the second half with Drinkwater burrowing over from short range.
However, Wilmslow slotted a third penalty and, with James sin-binned for an alleged high tackle, Warrington began to lose their shape and discipline.
They constantly surrendered territory and possession to the opposition through too many wrong options and elementary errors and Wilmslow took their chance to score wide out.
Drinkwater was sin-binned and for the last 10 minutes only desperate defence kept the visitors out.
Warrington will need to raise all aspects of their game to beat promotion-contenders Aspull away on Saturday.
