DALLAM Brook is set to receive a makeover thanks to a partnership between the Sankey NOW River Valley Initiative and Lever Faberge.
The project aims to improve the appearance and habitat of the brook for people and wildlife.
After clearing debris from the brook, vegetation will be placed in the straightened section of the water, through the installation of specially designed coir rolls or coconut husks, which will be impregnated with reed and wildflower seeds.
Once this takes root, the brook will flow round the new areas creating natural meanders.
Ratty from Wind in the Willows would be impressed with the plans as the new areas will also provide an excellent habitat for water voles, one of the countries fastest declining animals.
The week long programme of work started on Monday and will finish on Friday, when youngsters from Dallam Primary School will drop in to lend a hand and unveil a plaque to commemorate the works.
