STAFF, pupils, parents and governors at Middlewich High are celebrating the news that the school is one of the top four achievers in Cheshire.
The school is one of only four in the county to be recognised in a prestigious award scheme by the Department for Education and Employment.
The award, which is worth £20,000, is a tremendous boost for the school, following hot on the heels of the Investors In People award presented by Congleton MP Ann Winterton last December.
Deputy headteacher Phillip Littlemore said: "We are very pleased and proud that the DfEE has recognised our continuing improvement over the academic year 1999 to 2000.
"This award reflects the hard work and dedication of teachers, support staff, parents, governors and the pupils of Middlewich High School, and reflects our aim of constantly seeking to improve the education of our pupils."
The nationwide scheme involved close examination of the school's practices and initiatives over an 18 month period.
Teacher Tony O'Neill added: "We are really quite delighted. To be one of only four in Cheshire is really something".
