CREWE and Nantwich RUFC were edged out by high-flying Trentham in an enthralling 10-8 clash, last Saturday.
It was frustrating for the home side who matched their opponents in all departments and applied all the early pressure with Crewe's Steve Teasdale running the show.
Trentham weathered the storm and took control with two tries either side of the break.
At 10-0 down, Crewe looked in trouble but a penalty from Teasdale and then another long run by centre Tom Spowage delivered a try that reduced the deficit to just two points.
With all the momentum, the usually reliable boot of Teasdale went missing as two penalty kicks went wide of the uprights.
Crewe travel to Wirral, this Saturday.
