CREWE Boxing Club geared up for its next big night at Nantwich Civic Hall with action at Valentinos in Stoke, last Wednesday.

The impressive Richard Daley was first up, meeting the much more experienced Abdul Rasheed from Manchester's Arrow ABC.

Rasheed adopted a cautious approach from the opening bell and the Crewe lightweight pushed him all the way despite losing a close points decision.

Lee McBarron suffered similar problems as he constantly took the contest to Arrow's Mike Bryan but again ended just short in the judges' eyes.

Geoff 'Bud' Wright decided to take the matter out of their hands and really went for it against Liam Kavanagh, from Atherstone ABC, who boxed technically soundly and withstood some tremendous pressure to edge a majority decision.

With young Elliott Griffiths also tasting defeat on the judges' cards, Crewe's Ian 'Geordie' Clyde was aiming to reverse the trend.

And the light-welterweight delivered some stunning combinations that stopped Nuneaton ABC's Scott Thompson in the first.

Twins, Russ and Craig Lawton also came up trumps with impressive victories for Joey Singleton's boys.

"All the boys will learn a great deal from the experience and more so from a loss than a win," said Joey.

Nantwich Civic Hall is ready to rumble again next Thursday, April 5, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

Advance tickets at £5 can be obtained by calling 01270 650770 or £6 on the door.
