PARENTS have raised concerns about signs which have gone up around Cobbs Infants School suggesting that parking around the school should be banned at dropping-off and picking-up times.

Warrington Borough Council officials have been consulting with residents about a possible scheme to restrict parking in the morning and evening to ease the traffic congestion around the school, including Bridge Lane.

But some parents believe that this move will simply shift the problem further away from the school and into other roads.

One mum, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that parents have started signing petitions against the move outside the school.

Appleton Parish Council is also planning to complain to the borough council regarding the lack of consultation concerning the proposed no waiting zones.

Elvin Meachin, parish council clerk, said: "Neither the parish council nor the residents of the areas where the vehicles will now have to be parked have been consulted.

"It is felt that the problem has not been considered in total and the proposals only push the problem of parking to other areas, which are totally unsuitable."

But Howard Claxton, the borough council's traffic management and safety manager, said that it would be consulting with the school and through it, with the parents.

He said that the problem would probably be far less concentrated if parking was restricted around the school.

The move comes as part of a country-wide push to encourage children who live near schools to walk, thus reducing the traffic build-up.
