THE driver of a freight train escaped serious injury this week as vandals in Great Sankey threw bricks at his vehicle.
The EWS train, which was carrying coal from Liverpool to Fiddlers Ferry power station, was attacked by youths. A brick struck the side window which cracked but luckily the Warrington-based driver was uninjured.
Mick Breeze, EWS regional manager, said: "This was a wilful attack by a gang who knew exactly what they were doing.''
