A SEVERELY disabled boy is set to spend a holiday with his family in EuroDisney after they received a generous donation from Warrington Round Table.
The Round Table has been busy raising funds for a variety of worthy causes throughout the year including Diabetes UK and Loushers Lane Special School.
But chairman Ken Neal said the organisation wanted to find a final deserving cause to mark the end of a very successful year.
They heard about nine year-old Daniel Davies through the Butterfly Project, a part of NCH Action for Children, which helps families of children with life-limiting conditions.
Daniel was born with fluid on the brain, cerebral palsy and obstructive apnoea which means his throat does not work properly. The combination left him with profound and multiple disabilities.
At 11 months he was struck down with pneumococcal meningitis followed by bronchialitis when he was two-and-a-half. Yet he fought back against both illnesses.
The family, which includes two other boys, were stunned to find out they were to receive almost £2,500 and chose EuroDisney for their holiday because of its fantastic facilities for Daniel.
His mum Julie said: "I was really surprised because it is something we wanted to do for quite a while."
The Round Table has also been busy raising funds for Diabetes UK. In the run up to Christmas, in partnership with the Ladies' Circle, they created a Christmas experience each weekend at Ikea store providing a Santa and two elves to hand out sweets to children while collecting funds.
Over five weekends £3,500 was raised, allowing several Warrington children with diabetes to go on adventure and support holidays and provide 250 Balance for Beginners magazines to others offering information and advice.
Round Table chairman Ken Neal and Maggie Yates, chairman of Ladies' Circle, said: "We are delighted that the money raised in this initiative has resulted in the achievement of our £6,000 target for helping Diabetes UK supporting local people with diabetes, especially children."
Each year the Round Table also take on a project in the community to coincide with National Round Table Week. This year members took a group of children from Loushers Lane School to the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port.
Headteacher Liz Burbage said: "It was a great day out for the children. They enjoyed being so close to the fish and actually being able to touch some of them."
The Round Table has also provided £600 to the 30th Warrington Guides to buy some additional tents and cooking equipment in time for the county camp in July.
