A 15-YEAR-OLD girl from Stockton Heath has been praised by firefighters after she dealt with a blaze which started in the kitchen of her home.
The fire started after a grill pan was left unattended in the kitchen of the Kingsley Drive home on Friday.
She shut the kitchen door and got everyone out of the house before running to a neighbour's and calling the fire brigade.
She had studied fire safety at school as part of Key Stage two and remembered what the firefighters had taught her.
Sub Officer Mike Hardman, of Stockton Heath Fire Brigade, said: "She probably saved the house. I was very impressed with her actions and told her so. The community fire safety message is getting across."
