CHILDREN across the borough this week found themselves immersed in science.

The week ran between March 16 and March 23 and thanks to Set Up Science, a unique South Cheshire-based group, the majority of pupils in the borough got the chance to experiment.

Set Up Science offers young people the opportunity to interact with science, technology and engineering, encouraging continued participation in the future and it used National Science Week as an opportunity to raise awareness.

Set-up Science arranged over 100 events at schools and one of it's original founders, Dr Violet Pritchard, said the week had gone well despite the recent Foot and Mouth crisis.

The organisation has been arranging activities during the annually held Science Week since 1995 and the events have increased in number and become more popular every year with well over 3,000 school children benefiting this time.

"We have had quite a few evaluation forms back from the teachers and they have said they are very pleased with the presentations they had," Dr Pritchard explained.

"They have said they want a lot more of the same next year, especially the interactive events," she added.

The family event held at South Cheshire College saw an almost capacity audience in the Danebank Theatre and Dr Pritchard said they would be building on that next year.

Set-Up Science has expressed its thanks to sponsors of the event, including COPUS, The British Association for the Advancement of Science, Crewe Rotary Club and the Nantwich and Audlem Grammar School Foundation.

Dr Pritchard is still interested in finding new presenters for next year and anyone who is interested can be contact 811833 for further details.
