LYMM Angling Club waters that are open or closed due to the foot-and-mouth disease remain the same as last week.

Things are as good as they can be because we have not had to close any more waters.

The club extends its thanks to the membership who have fully complied with signs closing waters due to the Foot-and-Mouth disease. It is times like these that we are appreciative of such a responsible membership.

Lymm Dam action remains slow, although there are definite signs that things will improve over the next week, if it stays comparatively warm.

Without doubt fish are still shoaled up and in the deeper water, this is reflected on Lymm Dam. Anglers who find these pockets of fish have a good session. They are feeding readily although small baits are the best option. Anglers fishing the deeper pegs on the Baycliffe side have the best opportunity to find the feeding shoals, with groundbait feeders used on the tip the best method.

Carp are not readily feeding, although good fish have been seen patrolling the dam wall. This phenomena is known to be a pre-requisite to them beginning to feed in earnest, usually sometime in April.

Grimsditch Mill Pool fishing is quite steady and reliable, with rudd, golden rudd and skimmers providing action. Again it is small baits that are favoured, with small worm performing well when all else fails.

Carp action has not been worthy of a report, except to say that carp were seen taking bread off the surface during spells of sunshine last week.

The Sankey Canal is producing small silver fish, although among them are the occasional roach and skimmer of around half a pound. As usual, it is important to fish to features such as the 'stick ups', or overhanging trees to get the best of this water.

Members who have earned an overstamp are being rewarded for their efforts on New Pool, Village Pool and Statham Pool, where they have exclusive fishing until June 6. All are fishing well with things set to improve with the onset of Spring.

The only water where boat fishing is normally allowed is Tabley Mere, even then it has to be a club-owned boat, which must be booked in advance. Remote control boats, or devices, are banned completely. The club is aware that this rule is not included on the rule card, although this situation will be rectified.
