A VOLUNTARY group which aims to help sufferers of epilepsy and their families is set to be launched in Warrington.

The brainchild of Britain's leading epilepsy charity, the British Epilepsy Association, the group hopes to establish a steering committee which will eventually become part of the association's constitution for voluntary branches.

At a recent meeting held at Warrington Hospital to gauge likely interest and support in the town, the charity was encouraged by the level of initial support from local people.

Sue Blake, regional services manger for the BEA, said: "Some of the parents were unable to make the initial meeting, but have been in touch to say that they would like to be involved.

"Many parents of children with epilepsy don't know anyone with the same problems and indeed many children with epilepsy don't know any other children with the same condition.

"Just to come along and meet others who have had some of the same experiences can help enormously in helping to end the sense of isolation that many feel."

Anyone caring for a child with epilepsy - whether a parent, grandparent, teacher or child carer - is welcome at the group's next meeting on Thursday, April 12, starting at 7.30pm at the hospital.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to call the children's epilepsy nurses on 653911 or Sue Blake on 01226 723292.
