A WOMAN who says she repeatedly complained to the council about loose brickwork at the front of her house was knocked out when two bricks fell on her head.

When Karen Finn, of Morris Avenue, Latchford, knocked on the front door of her house on Wednesday, her partner, Steven Bates, opened the window.

But when he slammed the window shut, two bricks fell out of the wall hitting Karen on the head, knocking her out.

She was taken to hospital suffering from concussion and had a badly bruised head.

But Mr Bates claims they phoned the council regularly for three weeks before the accident, stating it was an emergency, fearing for the safety of their two-year-old child.

But Peter Mercer, head of contract services and housing, said: "We received a repair request on March 19 and there was no indication that it was a significant problem."

He said the council arranged an inspection appointment at a later date and added: "If there had been a problem we would have gone out the same day. The council has emergency procedures if there is an issue which should be tackled immediately but this information did not come across to us."

He said on the day when the accident happened the council organised emergency repairs and completed the work two days later.

But the couple said they were visited by two councillors on Tuesday who apologised and said all repair calls would be automatically logged in future.
