THE phones went silent at a BT call centre in Warrington on Friday.
Operations were finally wound up when the operator assistance centre in Wilson Patten Street closed its doors for the last time at 6pm.
When news of the closure was first announced, there were fears that jobs would have to be lost, but bosses were happy to say that by Friday, that was not the case.
A spokesman said: "There have been no job losses. Of the 55 on-site workers there have been a number of voluntary redundancies, transfers to '150' call centres in Liverpool and elsewhere in Warrington and agency staff have moved on through their agencies."
The day was memorable for staff member Jane Aishen, who was one of the first workers at the centre and became one of the last on Friday.
She had spent a total of 42 years with the company and has taken voluntary early retirement.
