WITH regards to your report in the Crewe Guardian, March 22, you state that Mr Alan Nuttall, was evicted from his home in Valley Road, because of 'serious structural faults.'
Whilst there were 'structural faults' in some of the council-owned properties on the Moathouse Estate and the council chose not to rectify the faults in their properties, Mr Nuttall's house and several other owner-occupied houses had had the faults rectified, some two or three years ago, therefore making Mr Nuttall's and the other owner-occupied houses safe and sound.
It therefore appears that Mr Nuttall and the other owner-occupiers on the Moathouse estate have been unjustly evicted, simply because their homes were in the vicinity of unsafe council property, and to enable the council to sell the whole of the estate.
I am therefore of the opinion that a dangerous precedent has been set, the reason being is as follows.
At the same time as the faults in Mr Nuttall's house, and other owner-occupied houses on Moathouse, were rectified, a number of owner-occupiers on the "Wistaston Green Estate" also had considerable remedial work done on their properties, but again the council chose to ignore the problems in their properties on the Moathouse Estate.
Therefore the faults in the council's property on that estate deteriorated and eventually led to the demolition of it.
It is therefore reasonable to assume that because the council chose to ignore the structural faults in their properties they have contributed to the demise of the Moathouse Estate. It is also reasonable to assume that because the council chose to ignore the problems with their properties on the Wistaston Green Estate residents have had remedial work carried out, therefore making their properties safe, but! there are council-owned properties which have no visible signs of remedial work having been done, and are adjacent to owner-occupied houses that have been made safe, and sound, we may therefore, in the not too distant future see a repeat of the Moathouse affair, with elderly owners occupies being subjected to the same treatment as Mr Nuttall."
If houses of the type of construction as on the Moathouse Estate and certain types on the Wistaston Green Estate are subject to structural faults, due to that type of construction, are the council implying by the fact they choose not to carry out remedial work on their properties, that their properties are immune, from structural faults, or was there an 'ulterior motive.'
As the council showed no consideration for Mr Nuttall at the age of 61, my wife and I at the age of 76 are very concerned of the possibility of being in the not too distant future subjected to eviction. Simply because of our close proximity to what we consider suspect council property.
It would be interesting to know where the people from the Moathouse Estate have been rehoused, and if they are satisfied with that accommodation. Also the owner-occupiers are they satisfied, or have they been subjected to additional expenditure, over and above, the compensation received?
