A TRIP to the cinema in 1938 led to 60 years of wedded bliss for a Crewe couple.

Betty and Gordon Cotton have lived in Crewe all through all their 60 years of marriage after meeting at the old Palace Cinema in Electricity Street in Crewe.

The couple were married three years after going to a showing of 'The Road to Zanzibar' at the cinema and Betty, aged 79, says the secret is sharing and caring.

"It is just carrying on the same as when you met, being amicable and looking after one another," Betty explained.

Gordon, who is known as Jack and aged 83, worked for Rolls-Royce since it opened in 1938 and retired in 1982, whereas Betty worked as a hairdresser.

The pair were married in 1941 at Hightown's St Paul's church.

With one son, John, and two grandchildren, Rachel and Richard the couple are looking forward to the future and now have their sights set on 70 years of marriage!
