PLANNING chiefs are giving Northwich residents the chance to have their say about Brunner Mond's ambitious proposals for the community.

The industrial giant wants to create an urban village at the derelict Wallerscote works with at least 700 new homes and use the area's limebeds as a landfill site to be landscaped into parkland in 10 years.

The company also hopes to create an eco-friendly waste disposal plant at its old power station at Lostock.

There is now a six week public consultation period, ending on May 11, when the draft plans can be viewed.

Borough Clr and Barnton parish clerk, Roy Garton, has been helping parish councillors set up the Combined Parish Council Action Group.

He said: "It is now time for the parishes to have their say.

"The parish council at Barnton thought this is too important a document to consider alone and hopes by joining forces with other parishes, their statement will carry more weight.

"The implications of Brunner Mond's proposals go well beyond the remit of what they are doing on their land - the traffic impact will have much wider implications for Northwich.

"We need a full independent survey of the whole area."

There will be public exhibitions of the planning brief at Winnington Park Recreation Club, Park Road, Winnington, between 6pm and 8pm, next Thursday, April 19 and on Tuesday, May 1 when council officers will be available to talk to.

It can also be inspected at Northwich's Information Centre on Chester Way, from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, on Saturday and at the development services reception at the borough council's Wyvern House in Winsford, from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

A text version of the brief can also be found on the planning policy services section of the council's internet site at www.valeroyal.gov.
