POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was beaten up by three attackers and left with serious injuries on Friday night.
The attack happened in Dene Drive, at 8pm, when a man in his 30s left the Queen's pub and crossed the road into the service area near the market entrance.
The victim heard a man shout from behind and on turning around he was knocked to the floor with a punch in the face.
His attacker was then joined by two more men who started to kick him until he briefly lost consciousness.
A man, who police have yet to identify, came and helped the victim and escorted him to a nearby relative's home where the police were called.
As a result of the attack the victim received serious facial injuries.
Detective Sergeant Nigel Groom, investigating the attack, said: "This was a particularly nasty and vicious attack, it seems to be without a motive and it appears now that the victim will lose the sight in one of his eyes."
One of the culprits is described as being around 26 years old, 5ft 8ins tall and wearing a shirt with blue and white vertical stripes.
The only description of the other two is that they are white men.
Police would like to hear from the man who helped the victim, but anyone who was in the Dene Drive and market area at that time should also get in touch.
