College complete treble treble...

NEVER has the theory of good things coming in threes been more apt than at Sir John Deane's College.

This is because all three of their badminton teams won their Cheshire under-19 titles - and all for the third year in a row.

The triple treble came when the men's team had to beat King's School, Chester last Wednesday, to add to the titles already won by the ladies and mixed teams.

They secured their honours last month with victories over Bishop Heber High School, Malpas.

But the pressure on the men to complete the unique treble didn't show as they duly won with a comfortable 7-0 whitewash.

Pippa Jacks and Rachel Heaton won two winners' medals for the mixed and ladies, for which they were joined by Kate Yarwood and Carolyn Brooksbank.

Stuart McCracken and Stuart Hawkins were the men in the mixed side, while Luke Symonds, Colin Tennant, George Whalley, Brett Harrison, Ashley Rayner and Kent Craven made up the victorious men's squad.

Di McBride was the real hero of the hour, coaching all three sides to their hat-tricks.

. . . . and bowlers take

third straight village title

THE village green may be the ideal location for bowls, but Antrobus are just as happy to keep the sport indoors.

This is because their village bowls team became Cheshire champions for the third year running a week ago last Saturday in the finals at Northwich Memorial Hall.

They beat Padgate in the final after overcoming Kelsall in the semi-finals and Longbarn in the quarter-finals.

Captain Richard Howman had double cause for celebration when he also won the individual competition held on the same day.
