TRITON Hockey Club men's 1st X1 suffered cup final agony on Sunday after losing out on penalty flicks.
Triton took the final of the Cheshire Plate into extra-time after making it 1-1 against Crewe with a late equaliser.
Neither side could make the breakthrough in the extra 30 minutes, but Crewe won the penalty flicks to lift the cup.
The final was played at Deeside Ramblers ground, and Triton should have been ahead by the interval.
However they were guilty of failing to convert sustained pressure which produced six penalty corners.
Triton's keeper Graham Morrison pulled off a superb save from a penalty flick midway through the second half.
But he could do nothing to stop Crewe taking the lead from a shot into the area which took a cruel deflection.
Triton fought back to force an equaliser eight minutes from the final whistle when Gillan Smythe flicked the ball over the keeper after a well-worked penalty corner.
Both sides scored their first penalty flicks, and faIled with their next two.
However Crewe kept their nerve better than Triton to convert their remaining flicks to win the match.
Triton are aiming to enter a 3rd X1 into one of the junior divisions next season, and for details about the club ring Richie Bason on 01270-874793.
