KNYPERSLEY Vics' manager Terry Stanway was fuming on Tuesday night after seeing his struggling side crash out 6-1.

The thrashing at home by Wednesfield was the Vics' second heaviest defeat of the season, and the worst performance of their campaign.

Knypersley are still in serious danger of relegation, sitting sixth from bottom and only three points clear of the drop zone.

Their plight is made more serious by the numerous number of games the sides below them have in hand on the Vics.

Knypersley should have taken the lead after just three minutes, but midfielder Wayne Atkinson saw his effort hit the post.

The Vics were then torn apart by the visitors, who scored three times in the opening 25 minutes.

The first two of the trio were well taken, although they all resulted from bad defensive errors.

One of the goals came from a Knypersley defender opting to play his way out of trouble six yards from goal rather than clearing the ball.

Knypersley hit the post again in the first half through a goalbound effort by John Burndred, and Wednesfield, who are several places above the Vics, went 4-0 up on 55 minutes.

The visitors scored again, and Burndred hit a consolation goal for Knypersley with 10 minutes left when he superbly curled a direct free kick round the wall and into the net.

Knypersley substitute Craig Redgate also hit the post with a glancing header.

Wednesfield completed a nightmare evening for the Vics with a sixth four minutes from the end of a match played in lashing rain.

* Knypersley travel to Halesowen Harriers tomorrow, and are at home against Stafford Town next Monday.
