DIY enthusiasts have been warned by Cheshire Fire Brigade to take more care when using electrical appliances.
Statistics show that there is usually an increase in accidents which involve DIY tools at this time of year.
Many modern DIY superstores provide advice, and the tools come with instructions on how to use them safely. Chief fire officer Steve McGuirk advises that these instructions are to be followed at all times.
He has provided a few simple rules to ensure that you can prevent any accidents that may occur.
Firstly, check that the tool you are using is correct for the job, and that all children and pets are in a safe place. Always turn off tools at the mains to check or repair, always uncoil extension cables fully, don't keep flammable substances near your work area, and always ventilate the room you are in.
Mr McGuirk says that by following these simple rules, accidents, fires and tragedies can be kept to a minimum.
