REAR passageways to homes across Warrington are to undergo a spot of urban regeneration.
Surveys of the 27 kilometres of rear passageways in the town have shown that 30 per cent are in urgent need of attention.
To address the problem, and concerns raised by residents and council members, the borough council is tackling the poor surface conditions of many of the passageways with a rolling programme of works.
The importance of the work was recognised last year after consultations with residents.
Last year, money was made available to fund the resurfacing of eight passageways in four wards. The borough council then allocated further funding for this year, which is covered in two packages.
Package one includes parts of Wellfield Street, Lancaster Street, Whalley Street, Hardy Street, Leonard Street, Folly Lane, Orford Lane and Battersby Lane.
Package two includes parts of Padgate Lane, Slater Street, St Mary's Street, Martin Avenue, Dalton Bank, Lockett Street, Thelwall Lane and Reynolds Road.
