A SHATTERED mum, whose baby was still-born 10 years ago, has spoken of the agony she is facing as she waits to hear if organs were taken from her child by Warrington Hospital.
Debbie Metcalfe, aged 33, of Westy, was expecting a healthy child and was devastated when Daniel was still-born on September 1, 1991.
Years on, the wounds slowly began to heal but today she sits petrified when the phone rings or the post is delivered, as her painful wait for answers drags on.
It was after revelations in the Guardian on February 1 that 66 lungs had been retained by the hospital in the past that Debbie began to wonder if her baby's was one of them.
The mum-of-three says that her suspicions were raised after she was told that she could not hold her baby after a post-mortem examination had taken place.
"I held him after the birth but in Warrington mortuary, after the post-mortem examination, I was told I could not pick him up," she said.
"I did not think about it at the time because I was told it was to do with the stitching, but after everything that has happened it makes me wonder.
"I cannot stand the wait much longer. Every day it is getting worse. It is like it is all happening again.
"I can't even call myself a victim because I don't have the answers. It could all be for nothing. It is really dragging on and I just want to know."
Hospital trusts across the country are unable to give out any information until a moratorium has been lifted and inspections of information systems carried out.
Warrington Hospital has admitted to keeping lungs for establishing cause of death from industrial diseases.
The admission came after the release of both the Alder Hey baby scandal report and the national census on organ retention, which pointed the finger at trusts across the country.
Debbie has now contacted the support group for parents, PITY11. It can be reached on 0151 285 0016.
