A SPECIAL honour all the way from Hilden in Germany has been bestowed upon a councillor from Latchford.

The town, which is twinned with Warrington, has presented Clr John Taylor, who represents Latchford but comes from Lower Walton, with the Hilden Coat of Arms and the Fabrizius medal.

The award is in recognition of his "outstanding service to Hilden and its townspeople" and was presented to him by the mayor Gunter Scheib.

It is the first time the award has been given out to someone from Warrington in the 30 years that the two towns have been twinned and Clr Taylor is delighted to set the precedent.

He has had an active part in the partnership for 16 years and makes regular visits to Hilden.

He said: "I regard it as a high honour and recognition of the efforts to promote the partnership between the towns as worthwhile.

"The partnership is a really grand opportunity for the youth of Warrington to see how things happen in one of our European countries and they can only be better for that."
