But the 'traffic-calming' scheme under construction at Mobberley Road's tip has had quite the opposite effect on residents on the other side of the road.
Homeowners in Montmorency Close and the adjoining roads found over the Bank Holiday that they were unable to turn right on to Mobberley Road because of traffic queues.
Some even had to turn left, and then turn round at the entrance to Longridge, just to get into Knutsford town centre.
Drivers, eager to get to the waste site, had clogged the central filter lanes in Mobberley Road from both directions as they waited to gain access to the new one-way system through to the skips.
But it left residents attempting to leave Montmorency Close fuming as Mobberley Road became gridlocked.
"I didn't know which way to look because it was completely blocked," said Sue Leech, of Mardon Close.
"This is just a taster of things to come in the summer."
Residents nearby are now considering petitioning the county council.
But Cty Clr David Lloyd Griffiths said the scheme had to be completed before any complaints were considered.
"We introduced this scheme because of complaints about stacked traffic," he said.
"The move was made to alleviate problems not introduce more."
