I CALLED into the Warrington Baths and Leisure Centre a couple of weeks ago during my visit to Warrington. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see if it had changed since I paid regular visits when I was a child. It was my intention to swim again during my next visit. Sadly, that won't be the case. I couldn't believe how much the gala pool and the rest of the pools have deteriorated since I remember it all those years ago. In the Gala pool, the ceiling and walls are covered in algae and look most uninviting and unhealthy. I would think some of the Third World countries would have cleaner looking swimming baths than these.
It seems unbelievable that such a wealthy vibrant town as Warrington cannot provide a more inviting swimming pool than this in the centre of the town.
It was such a shock seeing the general state of the pools that I felt it necessary to write to you, to Warrington Borough Council and Alan Stephenson, Director of Environment & Regeneration..
