CHESHIRE police is warning people to be aware of an alarm company targeting vulnerable residents in the area and quoting excessive prices for its products.
The company has been saying it works with the police, which is not true, so police are now offering advice to any residents genuinely interested in buying an alarm.
First, always obtain three quotes from reputable companies and ensure they are registered with police recognised trade associations.
Ask your home insurers for their advice and if a company fits an alarm ensure it is of British Standard 4737 or if you fit one yourself it should conform to British Standard 6707.
Also make sure you enquire about after sales service.
Police also advise that you check the credentials of any salesmen who come to your home.
A spokesman said: "If residents are approached and feel discomforted by the sales techniques of such salespersons they should, if they feel threatened or intimidated, contact the police.
"Or in any case they should contact their local community safety officer who will be happy to give further advice on this or any other home security concern."
Andrea Robinson is the local community safety officer, based at Northwich Police Station, ring her on 01244 613219.
