JOHN Addison caught his best tench to date from Grey Mist Mere on Tuesday.

A specimen of 7lbs 4ozs took a fancy to his legered luncheon meat. The carp are generally busy spawning and only a few single figure fish reported.

Paul Scattergood was really struggling for a bite at Rixton Claypits on Sunday but reports watching a member on an adjacent peg catch tench after tench. Waggler fished sweetcorn to 3lbs hook length was the successful method. The icing on the cake for the mystery angler was a 21lbs mirror carp that he skilfully played and landed on what I would consider light tackle for such a weedy venue.

Sport on the Bridgewater Canal is mainly skimmers, small roach and an explosion of gudgeon. However Ian Malliston legered boilie to net a trio of carp of 8-4-0, 11-8-0 and 17-0-0. There are plenty of roach and gudgeon feeding on the Macclesfield Canal where, although matches are only being won with 4lbs plus, the supporting weights go down gradually.

At Astle Pool anglers have been catching small carp with the best reported a common of 14-8-0 which took a pop-up boilie. Small pike are still feeding.

On the small lake at Sandiway, Eddie Cardus legered double pinkie over a bed of groundbait and caster to take decent tench. The water is so high that he was fishing from the car park. Roach and rudd are also giving reasonable sport but in the adjacent larger fishery only a single figure carp and a few tench and bream reported.

Wide Hole at Poynton is producing plenty of small roach, gudgeon and skimmers to waggler or leger tactics. Maggot best bait.
