STEVE Georgallis' season remained in the balance as the Guardian went to press.
The Wolves' utility player went under the knife at Stretton's North Cheshire BUPA hospital last night, Wednesday, following a suspected Achilles' heel rupture in Monday's game against Halifax Blue Sox.
Surgeons were going to be investigating and repairing the damage but only after the operation will the severity of the injury be known.
The worst-case scenario is that Georgallis' career may be in jeopardy but club officials were remaining optimistic last night that the damage might not be as severe as first thought.
Georgallis, aged 30, had been on crutches since leaving the action 11 minutes into the game at The Shay.
The former Wests-Tigers player had been hitting his best form for the Wolves when the injury blow struck.
Georgallis was instrumental in dismantling Leeds Rhinos when he covered for Lee Briers at stand off against Leeds last Thursday.
He had been outstanding in his favoured loose forward position in the previous Super League clash against Castleford Tigers and in the Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to Bradford Bulls, before jarring his neck in both of those games.
