A COMBERBACH woman stepped back in time when she trekked through Jordan on a horse - and raised £2,250 for a horse charity.

Anita Wright, aged 57, slept under the stars, lived with the Bedouins and rode though rocky and mountainous terrain during her six day adventure.

At night she would sit round a camp fire and listen to the Bedouins tell of their history.

"It was like stepping back in time, like living 2,000 years ago, no phones, no electricity and no contact with civilisation," said Anita of Senna Lane.

She flew to Tel-Aviv on March 17 and arrived at her camp in Jordan 23 hours later.

"It was a real culture shock but the Jordanians and Bedouins were the most fantastic people," said Anita.

Her day began between 5am and 6am when she got up and watered her horse.

Each day she rode for around seven or eight hours through spectacular scenery with a group assembled from across Great Britain, who were raising money for the International League for the Protection of Horses.

"We never saw water for a week and never had a bath or washed our hair," said Anita.

Safety of man and beast was of paramount importance.

A doctor and a vet were on hand as was a helicopter which could reach them within half an hour wherever they were in the desert.

"It was an experience of a lifetime," added Anita.

"It was just so wonderful."
