BUDDING actors are required to help an Alsager company put on the greatest amateur play of all time.

The English Mystery Plays were written and performed by amateurs in the Middle Ages and now Alsager Community Theatre is to recreate their magic with a modern touch, but need actors to take part.

The plays are to be held at Little Moreton Hall and Director, Keith Plant, stressed that he would welcome everyone who wanted to audition.

"Auditions are to be held at Alsager Library and anyone, whatever their level of experience will be very welcome," he said.

"We are already taking bookings and it should be a chance to perform to a packed house in a really beautiful setting.

"Little Moreton Hall is the perfect venue for these plays which were designed for an outdoor audience," he added.

The plays tell biblical stories from the creation to doomsday but Keith stressed they are not boring productions.

"These are not dry, old-fashioned Bible stories, but the plays are shot through with humour, life and vitality," he said.

Keith has specially adapted the plays to concentrate on the central part of the New Testament.

"I can promise a really innovative production with rock music, dance and a thrilling narrative which, hopefully, will pack an emotional punch," he added.

One audition took place on Wednesday but there will be a second at Alsager Library on Monday April 23 beginning at 7.45pm. Everyone is welcome.
