THE IT Suite at the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Young People's Centre has been declared a winner by children from Great Sankey's Barrow Hall County Primary School.

The NSPCC asked the young visitors to cast a critical eye over the Young People's facilities.

Paula Worthington, NSPCC practice manager, said: "They gave us a very thoughtful response and made a number of useful suggestions."

As well as identifying their favourite areas within the centre, the children suggested that there should be signs in Braille and helpers ready to aid young people with special needs.

One youngster felt that the facilities to enable people to have a quiet read should be expanded, while another thought that an adventure playground would prove attractive.

Several visitors suggested that a rota system would allow everyone to have good use of the facilities in the games room and the IT suite.

Paula said: "These are just the sort of comments we need. The Young People's Centre is a resource for all the young people in the community, and is not attractive and useful to everyone."

Barrow Hall's headteacher Geoff Bowles said: "The children were able to see that the NSPCC's Young People's Centre is a place where everyone can go. They were impressed by the building and were keen to make practical and helpful suggestions for improvements."
