REGULARS at a Grafton Street chippy will be crying into their cod and chips tomorrow, Friday, when they say goodbye to the shop's longest-serving assistant.
Jeanne Richardson, aged 58, from Latchford, will complete her last afternoon's frying and hang up her apron and hair net after 24 years' service at Don Wernham's fish and chip shop.
Mr Wernham said: "In 24 years she's never had a day off sick. She's out of the old school.
"I'll never be able to replace her they don't make them like her anymore. We'll all be very sad to see her go."
Jeanne started working for the family-run chippy on a trial basis in 1977, when it was only a year old, and she plans to put her feet up and take a well-earned break when she retires.
She said: "It's finally catching up with me just how little time I've got left here.
"I'll miss all my friends here and their company. They've been wonderful people to work for."
