GOLDEN Square had a nautical flavour last week when a marathon-running sailor came on a charity mission.
John McGowan, who is stationed with HMS Neptune in Scotland, was preparing to run the London Marathon in aid of the Warrington-based Cot Death Society. He was dressed in full uniform and carrying a model ship on his shoulders!
On his way to London, John met up with charity representatives and Warrington Wolves players for a little extra fundraising with a prize draw and cash collections. The Rotary Club also made a cheque presentation to the society.
John was inspired to help the charity after it came to the aid of his son, who suffers from sleep apnoea, a condition where he forgets to breathe as he sleeps.
