STUDENTS had it as they liked it on Monday as they took a step back in time to remember one of literature's greats.
Warrington Collegiate's Museum Street campus was transported to the Elizabethan era as literature lecturers and students celebrated William Shakespeare's 437th birthday by dressing up in period dress.
Visitors were invited to taste the delights of the cuisine the great bard would have eaten himself.
Delicacies like pottagem game pie, oatcakes with cheese, rye bread and herbs were all on offer.
To make the moment all the more authentic, the centre was filled with the sounds of the harpsichord, madrigals and folk songs while people played Tudor games including dice, checkers, skittles, juggling and ducking for apples.
The event was organised by Barbara Buttrey, the collegiate's English literature tutor.
She said: "I always like to include social events as a part of the literature classes.
"My students have been a great help in organising the day - in fact two members of the group agreed to sing some madrigals for us."
