AFTER reading 'Bank Holiday blues' in last week's Guardian, I totally agree with what Sara Humpries said about Bank Holiday shopping.
We in the Retail trade are completely sick of having to work every Bank Holiday. Those who do shop are the 9-5 Monday to Friday workers who would NEVER EVER work on a Bank Holiday or on a Sunday. Yet they expect us to work, and what did the poor darlings do on Easter Sunday? They probably had withdrawal symptoms because they couldn't shop, although I know of some shops that were open. We even have retail workers working on Christmas Day in some parts of the country. This is not on at all, most shops are open anywhere from 10 to 24 hours a day, seven days a week and yet they still want more.
I wish these selfish people would give us a break and let us have our Bank Holiday off like we used to do. Have they never thought if they didn't shop, retail traders would HAVE to close.
There is even talk of us having MORE Bank Holidays to take us into line with Europe. More time off for them again!
