Saddleworth Rangs...8

ROVERS turned on the style on Tuesday when they overpowered a gallant Saddleworth side at a very wet Bennett's Rec to continue their fine run and remain at the top of the National Conference League Premier Division.

Rovers took the lead in the first minute. Full back Mark Wallington's inside ball put stand off Graham Smith over.

On seven minutes Rovers scored again when a planned move saw hooker Phil Dermott dummy and then pass inside to second row Shaun Geritas, who crossed.

Two minutes later, Rovers' dream start continued when centre Nigel Quarmby broke down the middle and off-loaded to Martin who rounded the full back with ease to score.

Saddleworth then started to compete more and a converted try and penalty reduced Rovers' lead to 18-8 at half-time.

A minute into the second half a great break by Quarmby down the right split the Saddleworth defence and he found Geritas in support to outpace the cover and score his second.

Drew Povey set up good field position and then some slick handling saw full back Mark Wallington ghost into the line and extend the advantage.

Rovers ensured there was no way back for the Oldham side when man of the match Wallington scored two more to complete his hat-trick. Martin's sixth goal of the game completed a fine victory.

Wallington was well supported by loose forward Daniel Heaton and second row Shaun Geritas.

Rovers' next game is on Sunday, May 5, when they are at home to Castleford Lock Lane in the National Conference League Premier Division. Kick-off is 2.30pm at Bennett's Rec and the following Wednesday they are at home to Oldham St. Annes in their final game of the season., kick-off 8pm.
