The Wright stuff

VICE captain Andy Wright was the dominant figure in Lymm's winning start at Christleton.

In taking four wickets for 44 runs his off-spin bowling limited Christleton to 129-8. Craig Vansteenwinckel was also in good form with 3-13.

At the crease, opener Wright led the way with a fine 50 to help Lymm to a five-wicket win.

Drama at death

The season opened in an exciting fashion for Lymm Seconds in their home game against Crewe Rolls Royce.

Lymm's batting was dominated by a fine 61 from Rich Hughes in his debut game, well supported by Chris Earnshaw, 28, David Poskitt, 23 and Colin Rowe, 20 en route to 166-9 on a soft wicket.

Rowe, 3-14 and Poskitt, 3-35, were in good form with the ball but Crewe took the game to the dramatic last over where Poskitt bowled the last man with scores level.

Seven overs left

Appleton Cricket Club's only fixture to escape the clutches of the weather saw the seconds coast to a six-wicket victory with nearly seven overs to spare against Alderley Park.

Appleton's bowling attack and fielders fought hard to restrict the visitors to 139-8.

Dave Hurst, 26 and Steve Reece, 30, put on 49 for the first wicket, then Sean Singleton, 44 and Dave Darbyshire, 34 not out, notched 67 for the third wicket to put the game beyond Park's reach.

Robbo's crusade

STRETTON could only draw with Frodsham after scoring 175-8 in testing conditions.

Frodsham's last pair dug in and thwarted Stretton's bowlers.

Wayne Robinson scored a superb 71 not out and the pick of the bowlers was D. Cotton, 4-6.

Knight rider

STRETTON Seconds beat Old Parkonians convincingly at Stretton.

Stretton scored 206-4 and then S. Knight took nine wickets for 19 in a memorable spell of bowling that put paid to Parkonians.
