A CALL to arms has been made to parents in Appleton to make sure their children are not responsible for a spate of teenage terrorism on a retirement home.

Residents of Woodside Court, Dudlows Green Road, have been suffering at the hands of teenage thugs who have been destroying car windows, letting tyres down, drinking, smoking, stealing garden furniture, starting fires and hurling eggs at windows for the past three years.

The latest attack came at the weekend when a large piece of brick was hurled through a car window, destroying it and costing the owner who is a pensioner £50. And residents this week made a plea to parents to keep their children under control.

One resident, who did not want to be identified for fear of repercussions, said: "I want to know if the parents of these children know what they are up to. If they knew what their children were doing they would be ashamed. At Hallowe'en last year, the youngsters visited the nearby shop and bought up all the fresh eggs in stock which they used to spatter windows of flats. Some elderly residents in their 90s were very frightened thinking stones were being thrown.

"This species of 'fun' has been repeated at least twice since then."

PC Graham Waring, of Stockton Heath police, said: "We have had no reports of any incidents recently, but we have had problems with youths in the past. All we can suggest is that residents keep in touch with us so we can keep an eye on the situation."
