BUS users are being asked to help decide the best way forward for the development of Crewe Bus Station.
Eight options for the Delamere Street station have been put to the Borough's Planning Committee and a decision now needs to be made.
The bus station has been earmarked for development for the last 15 years after falling behind modern standards, but it is now hoped it can become one of the town's landmark buildings.
The site was described as the borough's worst grotspot by chair of the planning committee, Cllr Chris Thorley, during last week's meeting.
The four options will be out on public consultation for four weeks this month and the options cover a variety of plans including:-
* A complete enhancement of the existing layout, including enhanced safety and access features.
* Two different plans for a new bus station facility built adjacent to Lawrence Street, off Delamere Street.
* Various plans for the siting of a new bus station on Delamere Street with access from Delamere Street. Although, one plan would possibly result in the closure of Delamere Street.
* The provision of 14 bus stops on the Crewe Town Centre highway network as an alternative to the bus station.
Whatever option is chosen the station is expected to have an adequate number of stands to cope with demand, a sheltered waiting area, an enquiry office, public toilets and adequate provision of timetable information.
Cllr Thorley said: "In line with the Local Transport Plan, one of our aims is to improve travel safety and security whilst also promoting transport integration and protecting the environment.
"Whatever option is approved during the consultation, we will be ensuring that the development is not only highly functional but also attractive and includes important features like CCTV.
"We are not going to be pushed and rushed into making a decision, we want it right," he added.
