CHILDREN in the Greenfields estate are running riot by using a Finsbury Walk demolition site as a play area.
The resident, who prefers not to be named, told the Guardian tenants received a leaflet telling them the site would be secure when building work is completed each day at 4.30pm.
However, barriers were not enough to stop the children from getting in and having their fun, but with the added risk of injuring themselves.
The resident said: "They got in and then they were removing doors, kitchen cupboards, worktops, smashing glass, breaking walls down and generally causing mayhem."
Contractors started demolishing the flats on Monday, on behalf of Vale Royal Borough Council.
The properties are no longer needed as they are unsuitable for families and are difficult to let.
A borough council spokesman said yesterday: "We were aware of the situation this morning.
"Housing officers are meeting residents and we believe we know the identity of a couple of the children and will be talking to their parents.
"We hope residents will cooperate and tell us or the police if they see anything.
"There is an eight foot perimeter fence around the site and the bulk of the demolition work should be completed within the week."
