IT SEEMS that a lot can go wrong in the world of amateur dramatics.
Usually when it does, it is heartbreaking for those involved.
But last week the mishaps at Knutsford Little Theatre made it a night to remember for the cast - and the audience who clearly loved it.
For Chase Me Up Farndale Avenue, S'il Vous Plait was a play within a play, a farce based on a women's amateur dramatic group performing at their local village hall.
But the play within a play, about a group of men and women living in a Parisian apartment, was doomed before the curtain was raised.
What with Minnie (brilliantly played by Margaret Wild) reading from the script, Mrs Reece and Thelma constantly squabbling and everyone walking through the imaginary walls, things were never going to go according to plan.
Sue Butters was equally amusing as leader of the pack Mrs Reece.
Jill Hardman and Angela Duvall brought out many a smile too and John Clarke looked fine as Virginia Parrot.
With several parts to play, it did become a little confusing.
But that only added to the effect. By the end of the play, even the cast seemed a little unsure of who they were.
Witty humour was used well in the script and the mainly female audience were still chuckling as they headed home.
The theatre's next production, The Crucible, opens on June 13.
