WARRINGTON firefighters have proved that they are the cream of the county by winning a coveted competition displaying their skills at releasing people trapped in car crashes.
Red watch at Warrington beat a range of brigades from the rest of Cheshire during the extrication contest, while blue watch finished in second place.
The Warrington crew will now go on to represent Cheshire in a national contest in Plymouth and may go on to the final international contest in Johannesburg, where they will be up against the world's best.
John Melia, station officer of red watch, said: "We would like to thank all the organisations which have helped us, especially Wades scrapyard, which provides cars, and Cheshire Leisure."
