Congleton Town ...2
Trafford ...6
TRAFFORD hammered relegation bound Congleton Town 6-2 in an error strewn but highly entertaining game at Booth Street.
Congleton started the game confidently with ex-Trafford man Peter Weston causing problems on the flank with some jinking runs and telling crosses.
Callear shot over the crossbar and Washington went close before, in the 19th minute, the visitors forged ahead when Oxton turned the ball past his own goalkeeper.
Town keeper Taylor was immediately replaced by full back Johnson due to injury but within three minutes he was picking the ball out of the net when Chris Patterson's free kick out on the left struck Darren Emmett on the chest and floated over the static keeper.
The home side continued to push forward and were rewarded for their enterprise in the 29th minute Kearney cut inside Lee Southwood and crashed a drive into the roof of the net from 15 yards.
Trafford looked dangerous evey time they attacked and with Oxton taking over in goals from Johnson, Town looked extremely vulnerable at the back.
Skipper Emmett skimmed the crossbar with a piledriver and in the 39th minute made it 3-1 when he placed the ball into the bottom corner after the home side had failed to clear Anthony Hogan's cross from the left.
Chances were being created at both ends in a hugely entertaining game and after Kearney had shot wide from just five yards, Lee Wilkinson shot against Town defender Royle with the goal at his mercy.
Just before the interval, Joe Murray, who had been strangely quiet up to that point, burst into action when he sliced through the home defence and clipped the ball neatly over the advancing Oxton to leave a half time score of 4-1.
The procession continued into the second half and in the 55th minute Emmett drove the ball across the face of the Town goal and saw Beardmore turn it into his own goal.
Within a minute Chris Patterson volleyed wide at the back post but made amends in the 64th minute when Emmett and Wilkinson worked a short corner on the left and Patterson nudged the ball in at the far post.
The scoring completed in the 83rd minute when Trafford centre back Billy McCartney was ajudged to have pushed Washington who coolly struck the resultant penalty past Mark Molyneaux.
This victory means that Trafford are now unbeaten in eleven games and they will be hoping to end their season in style on Saturday when they entertain Kendal Town at Shawe View, KO 3pm.
