Milford Marlins...6
Crosfields...21
CROSFIELDS worked hard for this National Conference League second division victory against a spirited Milford side.
Soap opened the scoring with a well-worked move from the scrum. Pete Cannon and Dave Gibbons combined to send Andy Holroyd over out wide.
Milford hit back after some persistent pressure and a converted try between the posts gave the home side a 6-4 lead.
Crosfields took advantage of some lost ball by Milford and, on the last tackle of one set, Gibbons feigned a kick through and glided through the flat-footed defence to score. Holroyd converted and then kicked a penalty for a 12-6 half-time lead.
Crosfields shot out of the blocks in the second half and breaks from Eddie Bannon and Lee Smith sent Cannon racing 40 metres to score.
Gibbons slotted a drop goal, then a superb kick from Mike Redmond and chase by Smith, followed by quick hands across the field, set up Cannon for his second, and the final score of the game.
The forwards worked tirelessly in defence throughout while Gibbons was always dangerous with the ball in his hands.
Crosfields are away to Dewsbury Moor on Saturday.
